- Company ChungWoo 극단청우: Founded in 1994 by young theatre makers (among them director 김광보) as an alternative to the commercially driven theatre system
- Michoo Theatre Company 극단미추: Founded in 1986 by director Sohn Jin-chaek (손진책), now one of the most prominent theatre makers in Korea, the company is devoted to the modernization of tradition
- Minjung – 극단 민중 Minjung Theatre Company
- Mokhwa – 극단 목화 Mokhwa Repertory Company: Famous for performing plays written and/or directed by OH Tae-sook (오태석)
- Myung Pum – 명품극단 Myung Pum Theater Company: Productions based on novels (Korean modern classics and Russian authors)

- Sanwoollim Theatre Company 극단 산울림 소극장장 Theatre company with a venue in Sinchon, known for its 60s production of “Waiting for Godot”
- Street Theatre Troupe – 연희단거리패 Founded by famous playwright/director LEE Youn-taek (이윤택) in 1986, runs its own “Guerilla Theatre” (게릴라극장) in Daehangno
