Dinner Music

I just returned from Seongnam. It was an interesting first day at the 6th World Congress of Korean Studies, several good presentations on gugak, mobile cinema in the 50s, recent trends in North Korean propaganda etc., topped with an excellent garden dinner.

There was also a short performance of pansori, 김민수 performed “Sarang-ga”, the most famous love-song from Chunhyang-ga, accompanied by 조종훈. Although it had become quite chilly by the time the show started around 6 pm, I enjoyed it a lot—not many reactions, though… More on pansori tomorrow!

(Afterwards, an impressive Shamanist ritual—concretely: 동해안별신굿—to bless the conference and all the scholars from Korea and abroad was performed by “living cultural asset” 김영희 with several musicians.)
